Hola Mi Gente!
That's "Hello, my people!" if you're not a Spanish speaker... But you probably know this already.
As we close out Hispanic Heritage Month today, I have to tell you about my time at the #HOLAAwards on Monday, October 13th. This'll be a post about my creative life and pursuits in case you haven't figured that out yet, so it's definitely "in between acts."
HOLA stands for Hispanic Organization of Latin Artists and while it's been around 50 years now, I've been a part of it, on and off, for almost 30 years. It's the organization for Latiné artists who come to NYC to start and pursue a life in the theatre as well as those of us who are born here and want to work with our community on our stories and in our languages and combinations thereof. The HOLA Awards started around 25 years ago - I was at that first party! - and this year is the first time I've ever been nominated for an award. Along with the rest of the cast of the December 2024 run of La Paloma Prisoner Project, we were up for Outstanding Ensemble in Theatre.
We didn't win, but the night was magical. There were people there I haven't seen in 15-20 years, since I started working full-time and limiting my theatre work on purpose. And rather than approach me with "Where have you been?" they greeted me with open arms and joyful hugs.
I could have wept with joy. 'Cause sometimes the pause lasts a LONG time.
All this is to say to you, Reader - if you're feeling isolate or disconnected or just plain misunderstood, there is community out there for you. You don't have to go to a gala - just jump on co-working on Fridays. You might meet someone there who you click with and want to have a coffee (Zoom?) with outside of co-working. Never lose faith in your ability to attract what you truly desire.
Co-Working IS happening this Friday) 12–2 PM ET
Virtual Co-Working Session – free, drop-in, camera-optional, come as you are.

The Networking Workshop
If you’ve ever felt awkward or unsure about reaching out to people during a job search (or any transition), this one’s for you! We'll focus on taking the stress out of connection and reconnection, all so you can:
- Understand the whys behind networking and relationship building
- Build a strategy that feels genuine, not forced
- Craft ready-to-send outreach messages that make follow-up easy
As I work on the sign-up page, I will be offering you an Early Bird Bonus for signing up, so that's coming in a couple of days!
